"Rounding Up or Down" Lyrics by De Garassie the 4th
This afternoon, the phrase “Round Up or Down” suddenly came to me.
I realized it’s not just a herbicide brand — it’s a metaphor for how people are reduced, measured, and dismissed in our world.
This poem is written for every soul that can't be rounded up or down.
Thank you for reading.

Rounding Up or Down
Lyrics by De Garassie the 4th – Final Master Version
A boy got likes for tying his brandnew shoes
The world said “Wow” — but he had no clue
He smiled once, and the comments flew
But no one asked, “Hey, how are you?”
A girl poured coffee in morning light
They called it art — said, “pure delight”
She said no words and made no sound
Still the crowd all rounded up around
Are you happy when they round you up?
Are you sad when they round you down?
What’s your answer?
Do you see it now — this up or down?
Are you blind, or just looking around?
Do you feel the weight? Do you play along?
Or do you fake it like nothing’s wrong?
Hey! What’s your answer?
They can’t round me up or down.
No, I won’t be rounded up or down.
I'm not a number you can smooth away
I won't be measured by your way
OK, you know. This is my answer.
He missed the score by a single mark
They shut the door and left him in the dark
One digit off in a dosage line
She slipped away — no one did the time
A child failed by a silent tone
Too soft to lead, too slow to own
They said, “Not quite,” and turned around
Another soul they rounded down
Are you happy when they round you up?
Are you sad when they round you down?
Hey!
A crooked smile in a wrinkled frame
No filter hides it, no algorithm names
A song off-key, but sung so true
It shakes the soul more than autotune do
A lunchbox made with trembling hands
Not gourmet, but love still stands
Some things aren’t clean, or sharp, or loud
But still they have something true
Some things aren’t clear, or shaped, or allowed
But they have left nothing untrue
Are you happy when they round you up?
Are you sad when they round you down?
Hey! What’s your answer?
They spray the silence with Roundup breath
No room for weeds, no space for depth
Round up or down — it’s all the same
But I’m not playing that word game
I still believe in the seeds unsown
In messy roots the wires disown
No place for bloodshot eyes
Open space for blood warm hearts
Round up or down — that’s not my name
I’d rather break than bend for fame
So count me out — and let me be
Just something real
Just something free
I still believe — this world’s not all machine
Not just one code, not zeros in between
No rounding up, no rounding down
Just every soul on analog ground
“Written by a Japanese poet who believed the soul is analog.”
