【前書き】
Some people chase dreams.
Others just keep walking—
not to arrive anywhere,
but to avoid being trapped where they are.
This poem is for the latter.
夢を追う人がいる。
ただ歩き続ける人もいる。
どこかに着くためじゃなく、
今いる場所に縛られないために。
この詩は、そんな人たちへ。


"Halfway to Nowhere"

Packed my doubts and half-wrote songs
Caught the 3:05, didn’t care how long
The driver asked me, “Where you bound?”
I said, “Anywhere that ain’t around.”

Halfway to Nowhere
That’s where I stand
No signposts, no welcome
Just the wind and me again

Someone waved from a diner booth
Or maybe stretched—hard to tell the truth
I didn’t stop, I didn’t check
Guess I’ve learned to disconnect

Halfway to Nowhere
No ticket, no fare
Paid in silence and old songs
Drifting where I don’t belong

Don’t need a destination
Just motion to keep me sane
If I ever saw the ending
I’d never walk again

Humming that tune you used to love
No words, just tone and breath enough
A rusted sign reads “Dead End Soon”
But I keep whistling to the moon

Halfway to Nowhere
Not too far to fall
For every fading satellite
I still pay the call

If I ever arrive,
I’ll send a postcard
But don’t wait up
You know how I am.


【日本語詩】
Halfway to Nowhere（とどかない道）：出涸し 文四郎

迷いと未完成の歌を詰め込んで
3時5分のバスに飛び乗った
運転手が聞く「どこまで？」
「ここじゃないどこか」と答えた

とどかない道の途中
それが今の俺の居場所
標識も歓迎もない
また風と、俺だけがいる

食堂の窓から誰かが手を振った
いや、伸びをしてただけかもしれない
俺は立ち止まらなかった　確認もしなかった
たぶん　切り離す術を覚えたんだ

とどかない道の途中
切符も料金もない
沈黙と古い歌で支払い
自分の居場所じゃない方へ流れていく

目的地なんていらない
ただ動いていれば　正気を保てる
もし終点が見えたら
もう一歩も　歩けなくなる気がする

君が好きだったあの曲を口ずさむ
言葉はなく　メロディと息だけ
錆びた標識に「まもなく行き止まり」
でも俺は　月に向かって口笛を吹く

とどかない道の途中
転がり落ちるには　まだ近すぎる
消えてゆく衛星のひとつひとつに
今でも俺は　呼びかけている

もし、いつか辿り着いたら
絵葉書でも送るよ
でも待たないでくれ
俺の性格、知ってるだろ？


【後書き】
Not every road leads somewhere.
And not every traveler is lost.
Some of us just prefer
the middle of nowhere—
because it’s the only place
we still feel real.
すべての道が、どこかに通じているわけじゃない。
すべての旅人が、迷っているわけでもない。
私たちの中には、
何者にもなりたくないからこそ、
“どこでもない場所”を選ぶ者もいる。
そこだけが、まだ本当の場所だから。

It's not about one particular goodbye, but all of them.
